I am sure there are a lot of reasons that people set up blogs. In my case, I sort of backed into the blogging business. In 2004, my 32-year marriage ended in a divorce. As part of the divorce settlement, I ‘inherited’ two of my son’s student loans. I knew nothing about the student loan program – my son and my ex- had handled all that.
In Feb. 2007, shortly after I started an extended stay in Costa Rica, I discovered that I had student loan problems. It seemed at times that straightening this mess out was impossible. The mail service from the U.S. to Costa Rica gives a totally new meaning to the term ‘snail mail’ – anywhere from 6 days to 4 weeks for my mail to reach me. And, phone service is really flakey! Rarely do you finish a call without dropping the signal – just what you need when talking to one office, then another in a government agency. So I turned to the Web for info. The info available was often confusing, conflicting, incorrect or out of date. I finally found two good sites – so good, that I bought them both! One was a good introductory overview type of site (Intro to Student Loans), the other a very extensive and comprehensive site (All About Student Loans). Then, of course I had to have a blog on the same subject to tie everything together. Welcome to blogging! Good a reason as any? Larry Matthews
